What Are Negative Affirmations?
What are negative affirmations? In order to know this you have to understand affirmations. Every day you say affirmations whether you realize it or not. Affirmations are self talk, the things that pass through your mind as you go about your daily business. What you say to yourself affects the ways others view you. If you believe you have the capacity and the ability to do a job, you can do the job because you persist until you accomplish it. Think of some famous stars. All of society loves them and believes they are beautiful, but are they? Look at them closely. Often you’ll see flaws that everyone has, but their belief and demeanor creates the aura of beauty. The same is true for every aspect of life. If you believe you’re ugly, you hide your beauty with unkempt hair and clothes that cover every square inch of your body.
The Wizard of Oz knew about the power of belief. The certificate that he gave the Tinman was nothing more than a piece of paper, and yet, after the Wizard put it in the hands of the Tinman, suddenly, he was brilliant. He believed he now had a brain.
Stop for a moment and check your what you believe. Zig Zigler described negative affirmations as “Stinking thinking.” Before you can ever achieve your goals and dreams, you need to examine your belief system. A unique way to get rid of the old, useless and often harmful beliefs is a visualization exercise. Sit quietly in a relaxed position with your feet on the floor and hands resting on your legs. Close your eyes and picture two big movie screens side by side. On each screen, visualize a belief. The screen to the left should have the negative affirmation you want to eliminate. The screen on the right should have the positive affirmation that you want to accomplish. As you sit comfortably, watch as the negative screen gets darker and dimmer and the positive screen becomes more vivid and colorful. Eventually turn off the negative. Do this once a day for a few weeks. During that time, also practice saying the positive affirmation as you go through the day.
Other affirmation techniques include more than just daily affirmations and visualization. Create a list of affirmations and put the affirmations on post-its. Place these post-its around the house in places that you see everyday. Put one on the mirror to greet you in the morning. Place a positive affirmation on the car steering wheel for your drive to work. Make sure all the affirmations focus on what you want. An affirmation that focuses on avoiding something becomes a negative affirmation. “I don’t want to fail.” Actually tells your brain that you will fail. The brain doesn’t understand don’t want, it just hears fail.
What are the negative affirmations in your life? It’s time to take them out of the brain, expose them to the light and fade them away. Replace your stinking thinking with positive affirmations. Be the Little Engine that could. Draw up a list of affirmation, practice daily affirmations, visualization and create prosperity and abundance in your life today.
